Older people remember less negative emotions
The older people use their brain in another way than young people when it comes to storing of memories, especially connected with negative emotions. In the experiment, led by american neurologists, it was shown 30 neutral and unpleasant photos to older people (average age was about 70 years old) and 24 years old men and women. And there were made images of functional magnetic resonance imaging to determine the brain activity during viewing. The researchers have found that older peoplehave fewer connections between the brain’s area controlling emotions and the area involved in regulating of memory and learning skills, but also it had strong connections in the frontal cortex, responsible for the complex processes of behaviours and choices. The young people increasingly used the areas involved in emotions and memories – the most of young people were able to recall the pictures with negative condition, unlike the older group. It’s assumed that in old age the brain is mainly focused on the thoughts, and not emotions. The experts were very surprised that the emotional centers of the brain of older people have the same activity as youth had, but the work of neural networks was different in this area. So, we may finalize that the brain of the older people is less suffered from negative information in order to maintain the stable emotional condition.
