Viagra can reduce the sense of smell

Higher doses of Viagra may harm the sense of smell. “Perhaps this is due to the formation of nasal congestion”, – was reported by german researchers in the Journal of Urology. A team led by Dr. W. Gudzel from the University of Dresden Medical School studied 20 healthy young men volunteers who received viagra drug at a dose of 50 and 100 mg or inactive placebo and then were placed in the room with the smell distributing device. The researchers tested the level of smell’s detection, smell discrimination and the ability to identify the flavor. They found that a dose of 100 mg caused a reduction of smell, the definition of discrimination of smell and level of flavor’s detection, compared with placebo. A dose of 50 mg, in contrast to 100 mg had no effect on olfactory function. “According to our experiment, the most probably cause for the harm of olfactory function is nasal congestion, inflicted by viagra”, – said the authors of experiment. They note that although it was not not evaluated in their experiment, previous reports connected the reduction of nasal airflow exactly with Viagra.
